7 Things To Do When It All Gets A Bit Too Much

7-things-to-do-to-help-yourself-to-feel-better
We can all easily find ourselves suddenly feeling like everything is a bit too much. Getting swept up in the throws of life - we're only human, and it's inevitable. I can certainly say that as of late, I'm no stranger to this feeling. When I start to feel like everything is piling up all too quickly, there are a few things I like to do to allow myself to take a step back and snap out of my down-warding spiral.

RELIEVE STRESS
Perhaps a rather broad term, but I'm talking specifically about making yourself feel calm again through stress relief. Whether that be through practising your yoga skills or sparring with a punching bag - relieving stress is so important for your mental health. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to do, too. One hobby that I've recently taken a liken to is colouring. You see adult colouring books everywhere nowadays and I really pondered whether they were worth my time and money. But there is just something so satisfying and calming about taking an hour or two to get lost in concentration and art.

WALK
Walking is so theraputic and can do wonders for your mental and physical health. I'm lucky enough to live quite close to some beautiful rural areas and some of the loveliest afternoons are made up of Adam and I leaving our phones and all means of social media at home and just going for a walk with nothing but each other. It's such a refreshing way to just escape for a few hours!

NETFLIX BINGE-WATCH
Who doesn't love a good old Netflix binge-watch? You know, the ones where Netflix is constantly checking on you to see if you're actually still there. Yep, I'm still here! Tralling my duvet downstairs to the sofa and getting lost in my favourite TV shows is one of my favourite ways to unwind. I've just started watching Orange is the New Black (I know, where have I been?!) and I'm hooked. I'm also loving Peaky Blinders at the moment amongst a few favourites that I could never get sick of. Netflix is heaven.

BAKE
Nothing puts me in a better mood than whipping up some delicious treats while listening to Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root and pretending I'm Matilda. Pinterest is my favourite place to turn to for sweet inspiration. I recently made a batch of delicious Oreo Truffles which were only three ingredients, super easy to make and everyone loved them. It's the little things!

PAMPER
Any excuse to pamper is a good excuse, but more so when you're in need of a pickmeup. Whether you just run yourself a hot bath or go all out with candles and Lush's entire range - indulge! It's the perfect way to unwind and relax. My post with 7 steps to a perfect pamper evening might just get you in the mood!

REST
For whatever reason, if you feel as though you need to give yourself a break to rest - then give yourself a break to rest. Most of the time we are programmed to get up and carry on, but recognising that you don't have that strength can play havoc with your mental and/or physical health and may result in you feeling worse in the long-term. Grab a cuppa, your favourite book and snuggle up under your duvet. It's time to put yourself first - and don't you dare feel guilty about it.

TALK
Whatever life may be throwing at you - bottling up your stresses, worries and concerns is never a good idea. Simply talking them through with someone who will listen can make such a difference. Off-loading my feelings and frustrations to someone else always makes me feel lighter. All I can say is, Adam is a saint for putting up with me!

  1. For me bath with Lush bath bomb, some candles around bathroom and of course Netflix or YouTube or book is the best way to relax after a hard day/week!

  2. This is a great post! Whenever it feels like it gets too much it's definitely (for me) about sticking on a good film, making a nice glass of wine or cup of tea and getting in a hot bath with a Lush bath bomb! :)

  4. Ahhh Katy, I love this post! All these things sound great but I seriously want a colouring book now, it sounds so good :) my way of chilling out is just coming home. That's where I am at the minute.. Just chilling, getting looked after and having nothing to worry about. Definitely going to keep all these things in mind though for the next time I'm stressing but can't come home.

  5. Haha I always make sure to play Send Me on My Way when I'm baking too, especially if I'm making pancakes :)
These are such great tips, usually I end up just staying in bed catching up on my bloglovin feed or youtube subscriptions with a facemask on when I get too stressed. I definitely want to try the coloring now though!
