5 Must Watch TV Shows On Netflix

5-must-watch-tv-shows-netflix

Nothing beats a good old Netflix binge. Those days that call for nothing more than bringing your duvet onto your sofa and curling up with a few of your favourite shows. If Netflix binge watching were a paid job I'm certain we would all be very happy millionaires. I'm always on the lookout for new TV shows to be obsessed with, but there are a few I believe you'd be mad as a hatter to miss out on.

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
"A privileged New Yorker ends up in a women's prison when a past crime catches up with her."
Have you jumped on the OITNB bandwagon yet? If not, you must fix that immediately. I'll admit, it took me much longer than it should have but now halfway through season 2 I can firmly say I am absolutely hooked. It's all about the characters with this show - they'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry and you'll become absolutely captivated with each and every one of their storylines. All 3 seasons are available on Netflix!

TLDR: SET IN A WOMEN'S FEDERAL PRISON PACKED FULL OF CHARACTERS YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH. ALSO RUBY ROSE.

PEAKY BLINDERS
"A notorious gang in 1919 Birmingham, England, is led by the fierce Tommy Shelby a crime boss set on moving up in the world no matter what the cost."
Initially Adam started watching this show on his own, but after half paying attention to an episode he was watching one day I knew I had to start it properly myself. Set in grim 1919 Birmingham, this show centres around the notoriously violent gang, the Peaky Blinders and a Belfast lawman called in to bring them down. It's full of ups and downs, thrills, romance, family dramas and holds an impeccably talented cast including Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory and even Tom Hardy in season 2. The first season is available on Netflix!

TLDR: CENTRES AROUND A VIOLENT GANG IN 1919 BIRMINGHAM. ABSOLUTELY GRIPPING. CILLIAN MURPHY.

LOUIS THEROUX
"Journalist Louis Theroux takes aim at controversial topics and embeds himself in volatile situations in America, Africa and the West Bank."
This series of TV documentaries is truly one of the best. Louis Theroux delves in to many controversial topics in this series including the Westboro Baptist Church, street gangs in America, prisons and African game-hunting. Louis' ability to ask hard-hitting questions with his British charm and polite inquisitiveness is what makes these documentaries really stand out. There are 21 hour-long TV documentaries in this series available on Netflix!

TLDR: EXTREMELY REAL CULTURAL CURIOSITY WITH A HINT OF BRITISH CHARM.

GOSSIP GIRL
"Kristen Bell provides the voice of an anonymous blogger who narrates the action in this hit series set in an exclusive New York City boarding school."
Honestly, who doesn't love GG? If you're part of the small percentage who is yet to watch this show centred around the dramatic lives of these upper-east side teens I urge you to start right now. Although their lives are set far apart from many of our own, you'll be hooked on the dramas and relationships that constantly unfold. Don't even get me started on my feelings for Chuck and Blair! Be still, my beating heart! All 7 seasons are available on Netflix!

TLDR: DRAMATIC LIVES OF BEAUTIFUL, DIRTY, RICH UPPER-EAST SIDERS.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
"Sunnydale teen Buffy Summers craves an ordinary life but accepts her destiny as a Slayer by killing vampires and demons, aided by a band of friends."
A show I will always, always love. I grew up watching Buffy and I can't even tell you how happy it makes me that all 7 season are available on Netflix. If you've never given Buffy a go, I strongly urge you to do so. It's packed full of incredible writing and character development which will result in you becoming more and more hooked as the seasons go on, becoming darker and more complex. First aired in 1997 you can't help but feel nostalgic with a few of the cheesy effects. It is a stand-out show that has truly stood the test of time.

TLDR: IF FANTASY MIXED WITH ROM-COM AND DRAMA IS YOUR THING, YOU CAN'T MISS OUT.

  5. I actually had a few issues with the beginning of season 3 of OITNB. I think I despise Alex and Piper was just being irritating. However, it became more of an ensemble performance towards the end of the season and I was back on the loveboat again. So much so, I've now downloaded the book onto my Kindle and I'm loving it too!

I also love a wee bit of Louis! Always odd and always entertaining! One day I hope to say that I will have finally watched all his documentaries!

    1. I'm not onto season 3 just yet, but Piper and Alex are kinda already starting to irriate me. I'm already over Piper/Alex/Larry/Polly - I'm way more into the other characters! Also, Louis is wonderful. I love his sense of humour. I'm always on the lookout for documentaries of his that I haven't yet seen!
